Today an injection drug user died of HIV/AIDS in Chennai. The reason for his death is that there is no Care and support specifically for injection drug users in chennai . they are treated as everyone, these drug users are co-infected with the Hep-c and HIV. The problem over here is poor adherence to retro viral drugs. last but not the least is the Drug User was HEP C positive. so people with double infection should be given specialized treatment. Many die every year they are documented as just died of low cd4 count or drug resistant. there are many drug resistant strains in circulation among IDUs in chennai.
